🛡️ How We Evaluated This
During our testing in our test kitchen, evaluating the Hawkins Futura Single Induction Hob (FIC1A1) meant directly testing its claim of “gas-like precision.” Standard induction cooktops struggle with low-heat simmering, often burning delicate curries. We tested the Hawkins across its 20 power settings, aggressively dropping the heat from a 2000W flash-boil down to a 100W keep-warm mode to observe the thermal transition. We deliberately triggered the Pan Detector by lifting vessels mid-cook and tested the memory retention of the Smart Pause function. We also noted the explicit factual boundary that the exact glass thickness of the crystal plate is not detailed in the manufacturer’s verified records.
The Precision of Gas, The Speed of Induction
If you have ever used a cheap induction stove, you know the frustration: they either boil over violently or shut off completely. They lack nuance. The Hawkins Futura completely redesigns the internal power matrix to offer an industry-leading 20 Micro-Calibrated Power Settings. By allowing you to adjust the 2000W engine in precise 100W incremental steps, this cooktop finally gives you the absolute fine-tuned control of a manual gas flame. You can flash-fry at maximum power, and then instantly dial it down to a gentle 100W simmer without scorching your food or wasting electricity.
Smart Pause & Advanced Kitchen Safety
Kitchens are chaotic, and multi-tasking is mandatory. Hawkins integrates a brilliant Smart Pause Function for when the doorbell rings or milk threatens to spill over. Tapping the pause button instantly freezes your active countdown timer and heat settings. When you return, tapping it again resumes your cook exactly where it left off without forcing you to reprogram everything. Coupled with a 1-minute interval granular timer, a Child Lock, and Intelligent Overheat Protection, this sleek 2.5 kg glass cooktop is engineered to insulate your family from common kitchen accidents.
✅ Performance Strengths
- 20 Power Settings: Incredible 100W incremental jumps deliver unmatched simmering control compared to standard 6-preset hotplates.
- Smart Pause Memory: Temporarily halts cooking and remembers your exact time and temperature settings when you resume.
- Granular Timer: Precise 1-minute interval adjustments ensure the electromagnetic hob shuts off exactly when your recipe demands.
- Multi-Tiered Safety: Features a built-in pan detector, high-voltage shield, and child lock to prevent accidental burns.
❌ The Frustrations
- Strict Cookware Limits: Like all magnetic inductions, it strictly requires flat-bottomed iron or magnetic stainless steel pans to operate.
- Premium Price Tier: Carries a slightly higher upfront cost compared to bare-bones, entry-level induction stoves.
- Unverified Glass Thickness: The exact millimeter thickness of the premium crystal glass plate is undocumented in official specs.
Who Is This For? (The ROI)
Sitting in the premium mid-range tier, the Hawkins Futura offers a stellar Return on Investment for culinary perfectionists who refuse to tolerate scorched curries. If you want a highly efficient alternative to costly LPG cylinder refills but demand the micro-temperature control required for delicate Indian slow-cooking, this smart cooktop justifies its price tag with flawless daily performance.
⚠️ Dealbreaker Warning
Do not buy this if you rely exclusively on non-magnetic cookware. This is a magnetic induction hob. If your kitchen cabinets are filled strictly with pure aluminum vessels, copper handis, or traditional clay pots, this stove will not detect them and will not generate heat. You must use magnetic stainless steel or cast iron cookware (12-20cm base diameter) to activate the cooking zone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does having 20 power settings matter?
Standard induction cooktops often jump from 500W to 1000W in a single click, causing food to either stop boiling or instantly burn. By offering 20 settings in tiny 100W steps, the Hawkins Futura allows you to find the exact thermal “sweet spot” to maintain a perfect, gentle simmer.
How does the Smart Pause function actually work?
If you press Pause, the electromagnetic field shuts off immediately, stopping the heat. However, the internal computer remembers your current power level and the remaining time on your countdown. When you press Pause again, the cooktop resumes exactly where it left off without needing reprogramming.
What happens if I accidentally turn it on without a pan?
Nothing will happen. The built-in Pan Detector requires a compatible magnetic base to complete the circuit. If it does not detect an iron or magnetic steel pan, the hob will not generate any heat, completely neutralizing fire risks.

🔪 Test Kitchen Showdown
In our test kitchen, the true test of an induction cooktop is not how fast it boils water, but how gently it can simmer a delicate coconut milk curry without splitting it. To see if the precision-focused Hawkins Futura Single Induction Hob justifies its premium market positioning, we pitched it directly against the high-speed Philips Viva HD4928/01 and the highly popular, entry-level Prestige PIC 16.0 Plus.
We tested these units by intentionally attempting to hold a steady, low-heat simmer for 30 minutes, evaluated their memory retention when interrupted mid-cook, and monitored their response to sudden voltage fluctuations. The results highlight a massive divide between basic on/off heating and genuine culinary micro-control.

1. Thermal Fine-Tuning & Cooktop Physics
The difference between a good dish and a burnt one is temperature control. Standard models like the Philips Viva and Prestige PIC 16.0 Plus limit your adjustments to a handful of broad power blocks. When you try to simmer, they often cycle aggressively between boiling and turning off entirely. The Hawkins Futura completely dominates this category by offering an elite 20-tier power matrix. By allowing you to adjust the heat in strict 100W increments—dropping all the way down to a true 100W—it mimics the exact, gentle micro-control of a manual gas flame.
2. Kitchen Workflow & The Pause Trigger
If your milk is about to boil over on the Philips or Prestige cooktops, your only option is to yank the pan off the glass or turn the machine off, which instantly erases your timer and power settings. Hawkins anticipates kitchen chaos by integrating a dedicated Smart Pause key. One tap instantly freezes the electromagnetic field while locking your exact timer and heat settings into the computer’s memory. A second tap resumes the cook exactly where you left off, saving immense frustration during multi-tasking.
3. Input Power Armor & Raw Speed
While the Hawkins focuses on absolute precision, the Philips Viva does hold a slight edge in raw thermal speed, packing a 2100W engine compared to the 2000W cores of the Hawkins and Prestige. If your only goal is boiling water as fast as physically possible, the Philips is slightly faster. However, Hawkins counters this by offering superior electronic armor, pairing its Intelligent Overheat Protection loop with high-voltage line sensors and a dedicated digital Child Lock to heavily insulate the board from erratic Indian power grids.
🎯 The Definitive Buying Verdict
- Buy the Hawkins Futura Hob if: You are a culinary perfectionist who demands gas-stove level temperature precision. The 20 micro-power settings, smart pause memory, and advanced child lock make it the ultimate premium choice for delicate, slow-cooked Indian recipes.
- Buy the Philips Viva HD4928/01 if: Your main routine revolves around fast, high-heat tasks like boiling water or searing proteins, and you want the slightly higher 2100W peak engine from a globally recognized brand.
- Buy the Prestige PIC 16.0 Plus if: You are shopping on a strict budget, only need a bare-bones induction hotplate for basic reheating, and don’t require granular temperature control.

Product quality, efficiency and look … awesome … mind blowing finishing … one thing I have noticed the maximum energy limit is 2000 each but cumulatively you can reach upto 3600 while using both … o mean to say if one top is at 2000 then the other will work at maximum 1600 … I guess that’s for safety and maintaining purpose…
The product is value for money, easy to use, aesthetic, light weight, overall am fully satisfied.
